Introduction The combination of the readings, case studies, discussion boards, and paper critique are conveniently and evenly distributed in the coursework. The variety is advantageous for students to learn via different approaches. All of the course materials brought up opportunities to relate past or current work experiences for students. From a personal viewpoint, most previous job experiences related to how OD interventions would have been so much better had the organizations known to involve.

I was called into a hospital by their HR manager. The hospital needed to improve morale amongst its nurses. But as I spoke to different stakeholders, the problem became more complex. The CEO, matron and HR manager all agreed that they wanted a one-day workshop for all internal managers in the hospital. They wanted the workshop objective to be: "To help the managers to develop a common focus regarding what they would need to do as a united team, over the next 18 months. I knew that I had to provide far more than what they'd asked for in their workshop objective. And far more than even the problems they had briefed me on.
Od Intervention Case Study
The term intervention refers to a set of sequenced planned actions or events intended to help an organization increase its effectiveness. Interventions purposely disrupt the status quo; they are deliberate attempts to change an organization or subunit toward a different and more effective state. In OD, three major criteria define an effective intervention: 1 the extent to which it fits the needs of the organization; 2 the degree to which it is based on causal knowledge of intended outcomes; and 3 the extent to which it transfers change management competence to organization members. The first criterion concerns the extent to which the intervention is relevant to the organization and its members. Effective interventions are based on valid information about the organizations functioning; they provide organization members with oppor- tunities to make free and informed choices; and they gain members internal commit- ment to those choices.
